Step Falls in Newry has always been one of my favorite waterfalls to visit in Maine. It is a much longer, more complex waterfall that spans a vast stretch of the stream. The hiking trail follows along the stream giving you many chances to explore different sections of the falls. There hike is fairly short and becomes steep at the top to reach the start of the falls. It is worth the hike to take in the view from the top of the falls which drop a combined total of 250 feet. A beautiful mountain off in the distance can be seen from the trail summit. The falls run over a huge rock surface providing plenty of locations to stand right next to the falls. The flow difference from spring to fall doesn't diminish the beauty of these falls. They are worth the stop, any time of year!
