About Us

The Freeport Conservation Trust is a 501(c)(3) non-profit grass-roots land conservation organization led by a volunteer board of trustees and a thriving local membership. We aim to preserve, connect and share the natural beauty of Freeport, and we’ve made great strides. Since our beginnings in 1977, FCT has helped conserve 1,500 acres of land—from Mitchell Ledge and Talbot Farms’ scenic working fields and the important habitat of the Cousins River marshes, to the grand open space of Sayles Field and welcoming woodlands of Calderwood Preserve.

Many of our properties include trails—about 20 miles, so far—which FCT volunteers mark and maintain. With help from generous donors, community stewards, and able volunteers, we are always looking for new ways to connect open spaces and natural places for all Freeporters to enjoy, for generations.
